To keep track of when Jumbo Trout are stocked in real-time, anglers can consult Trout and Kokanee Fry, Fingerling and Put, Grow and Take Plants In 2023, the Department will stock hundreds of lakes throughout the state with over 147,000 jumbo trout averaging greater than 14 inches in length and 1 pound or larger in weight. To keep track of when catchables are stocked in real-time, anglers can consult Jumbo Trout Like the last few years, the average size of catchables on opening day is expected to be about 11 inches in length. Stocking plans by yearįor the 2023 trout fishing season, 2.18 million catchables will be stocked throughout the state. The stocking is comprised of "catchables", "jumbos", "put, grow and take" and "fry/fingerling" plants. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife expects to stock or has stocked more than 16.2 million trout and kokanee into over 500 water bodies across the state to provide for excellent trout and kokanee fishing opportunities during 2023. The locations, dates, and numbers of fish presented are based on information developed in the early part of the year, and unavoidable changes may occur. The 2023 Statewide Hatchery Trout and Kokanee Stocking Plan contains stocking information for each individual Washington County and for the entire state. While most of the lakes are stocked as planned, anglers can expect a few changes due to modifications in hatchery production, as well as the ability to stock excess brood fish. The statewide trout stocking plan provides anglers with the earliest information on where and how many trout are planned to be stocked into lakes and streams around the state. Monofilament recovery and recycling program.As Hidden Lake remains a popular destination for anglers in Lake County, Lake Metroparks stocked the lake again in the spring and fall of 2021.
The lake was stocked with 1,000 pounds again in the fall of 2020. As a result, Lake Metroparks stocked the nine-acre lake at Hidden Lake with 800 pounds of rainbow trout for the first time in the spring of 2020. Visitation to the parks dramatically increased throughout 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, Veterans Park saw impressive numbers of anglers, so Lake Metroparks provided an additional 500 pounds of trout in the late fall to help extend the fall season and provide a quality fishery at Veterans Park. During the fall, Lake Metroparks generally stocks the pond with around 1,000 pounds of catchable rainbow trout. Once the waters of the pond cool after a long summer, another opportunity to stock trout arises. Around 1,700 catchable rainbow trout are stocked annually at Veterans Park as part of this spring event. Each spring, the pond is stocked with catchable rainbow trout thanks to a longstanding partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. Visitors to this park can enjoy fishing from the shore, their choice of three piers, or even wade into the shallow water. One of the most popular places to fish in Lake Metroparks is the 33-acre pond at Veterans Park. For many years, Lake Metroparks has maintained a robust fish stocking program for these lakes and ponds. Not only can anglers enjoy fishing in the beautiful streams, they can also enjoy the serenity of fishing from as many as 13 different waterbodies found throughout the parks. The streams and rivers flowing through the parks are some of the most picturesque places to visit in the county and a real draw for anglers near and far.
